We have developed OML – online martial arts learning! It’s a digital portal through which you can continue to learn from our experienced instructors.

Here’s everything you need to know about OML: what it is, how it works and how it can help you become a better martial artist.

What is OML?

OML stands for online martial arts learning. It’s a way to access online courses tailored specifically to the needs of UMA students.

In these disease-stricken times, hands-on martial arts training simply isn’t feasible, but that doesn’t mean your learning should be halted. OML is a way for you to maintain your skills and better your technique through guided virtual training.

What does OML cover?

The UMA OML program covers all three months of our curriculum with the classes of the same length and with the same instructors. This consistency is what allows us to continue training remotely. It’s essentially just like training at the dojang … but from the comfort of your own home.

How will I get feedback?

Our experienced instructors will be able to give you interactive feedback at each step of your martial arts journey. As well as demonstrating the techniques in easy-to-understand ways, you’ll also receive tailored instruction on how to improve.

You simply film your technique with your phone camera and an instructor will watch carefully to provide feedback on what to correct or to improve.

Will I be able to be graded?

Yes. By taking our online course you will be eligible for tip testing. You will, therefore, be able to be graded. Even in these uncertain times, UMA is dedicated to our students’ progress. In the event UMA is still closed by the time you’re eligible for grading, we will perform an online assessment.

Can I rewatch content?

Yes. Material may be studied for as long and as often as required. You simply log into the UMA website and all our OML content will be at your fingertips, night or day.

How do I pay for OML?

You will receive a two-week free trial of the portal. After this two week period, $20 per week will be deducted from your original membership fee. The balance of your membership may then be credited for use on future membership or the purchase of martial arts equipment.

In the event your membership with UML is expired: don’t worry. You can still sign up for OML. You simply renew your membership and the OML material is all yours.

How should I prepare for OML?

Your priority should be space: you’ll need enough room to be able to practice kicks without fear of sending your grandmother’s good china flying.

Some classes will require the use of weights or weapons. If you don’t have access to these items, don’t worry – you can still borrow UMA equipment on our “free hiring out” day.
